Her eyes sought out mine, hoping-still hoping, the foolish woman-and pleading me for mercy. Panic and terror beat a frantic rhythm under her skin. Her pulse throbbed under my mouth where I kissed her throat. I couldn’t resist and I didn’t have to, not anymore, not ever again with her. She smelled flowery with a hint of sweat. I leaned down until my nose was inches from the skin below her ear and breathed in. Maybe even loved it, if I were capable of that kind of emotion. That was why Falcone had given her to me. Her pulse hammered against my rough palm. ![]() Her pupils dilated but I put no pressure into my touch. My hand traced the soft skin of her throat, then my fingers wrapped lightly around it. I knew I could kill her, no doubt about it. I’d gotten out of the habit of hoping a long time ago. ![]() ![]() Hope it made people foolish, made them believe in something beyond reality. She’d tried to fight, tried to be brave, tried to hurt me, maybe even kill me. My fingers found her wrist her heartbeat was fluttering like a bird’s. She looked like a porcelain doll: big blue eyes, chocolate hair and creamy white skin breakable beautiful, something that I wasn’t meant to touch with my scarred, brutal hands. ![]()

It can best be described as the concept of foils applied to works instead of characters. The trope is also popular and commonly applied in case of titles that came out around the same time and share a lot of similarities but accomplish different outcomes, be them Dueling Works or works in different medium altogether, especially in case of those that run for long enough to have divergent evolution. May serve as a Deconstruction, Reconstruction (if the original work was a deconstruction itself) or Stealth Parody of the original work. Often set at the opposite end of Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism. ![]() A polar opposite of the Spiritual Successor, the Spiritual Antithesis is (intentionally or not) referencing or invoking an earlier work by using similar characters and themes, but going in a completely different direction. ![]() ![]() ![]() The duo are responsible for designing iconic props from the Harry Potter movies, such as the Marauder’s Map, the Black Family Tapestry, all issues of The Daily Prophet, and even Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Letter. Tristan started out a lad and remained a lad. That’s the problem I had with this book, it simply felt unplanned. It’s okay to have two main characters but this didn’t feel like the two had been planned. In reality, by the end you feel it’s Jake. Tristan, I thought, was the main protagonist, and it certainly starts off this way. The setup of this book was the weakest point for me, together with how things were explained, such as the descriptions of events and how action was portrayed. I didn’t find a structure to the story and it generally felt unconvincing. The third act was the strongest and it began to develop an identity of it’s own. ![]() I did at one point think of giving up, however, I managed to happily finish it. The initial pages were uninspiring and the way it was written, left me struggling to visualise what was actually going on. It’s the story of Tristan Massey who becomes the alpha of a werewolf pack a little sooner than he anticipated. This is my first book by author Lynn Tyler. Life would never be dull.Īs always I don’t want to spoil your enjoyment of the story, so I’ll keep my review to a personal opinion. ![]() ![]() ![]() ©2017 April Daniels (P)2017 Audible, Inc. ![]() Original cover art copyright Diversion Publishing Corp. Dreadnought's murderer - a cyborg named Utopia - still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. With a sweet message and cute illustrations, this book is bound to become a firm favourite. Between her father's dangerous obsession with "curing" her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he's entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she's in over her head. It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny's first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny's body into what she's always thought it should be.
